An Earthquake Hits Mexico

MEXICO CITY - A strong earthquake of 7.4 magnitude struck Tuesday the south and central Mexico, and brought down at least 60 houses in the state of Guerrero, the collapse of a pedestrian bridge in the capital city and scenes Panic at various locations, but so far there is no report of injured or deceased.

The epicenter was about 320 kilometers southeast of Mexico City in the state of Oaxaca.


The quake caused buildings to shake in the Mexican capital and people out of various buildings, some of which was recorded breaking glass and falling plaster ceilings.

The Mexican seismological authorities reported at least four aftershocks, two of them in Guerrero and two in the state of Oaxaca, between 4.8 and 5.3 magnitude.

The phone service stopped working.


The Mexican seismological reported the magnitude at 7.8 degrees, with an epicenter 29 kilometers south of Ometepec.


In the monument of the Angel of Independence stands out on Avenida Reforma, in the center of the capital and on which are located hundreds of government offices, hundreds of employees gathered in the streets.


The eldest daughter of President Barack Obama, Malia, 13, is on holiday with a school group in Oaxaca in southwestern Mexico, but the White House said was never in danger during the strong earthquake on Tuesday.


In 1985, an earthquake of 8.1 degrees which killed 10,000 people in the capital.
