BAGHDAD — The Blasts killed at least 46 people in eight cities across Iraq. The Iraqi authority reports that about 200 people were wounded. There were two explosions in the capital, close to the International Zone.
Thousands of additional security forces are heading to the capital, and
the government has created checkpoints across the city
jamming the roads.
Authorities believe this is merely an effort to stop the annual meeting of the Arab League, to be celebrated the next week in Baghdad. It looks like the Police and the government officials are the main targets of the attacks. So far, there's no claim of responsibility.
One of the worst attacks was in Karbala, where two car bombs killed 13 people in a crowded shopping
and restaurant area. Five Iranian
pilgrims are among the dead.
Other attacks included bombs near the fortified Green Zone, and the destruction of a police official's house in Falluja.
