Google Drive Goes Down For Many Users

Google Drive is having some hiccups today.

The online file storage site has been inaccessible for a large number of users today. On its status page, Google initially said that it's "investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive" as of 7:17 a.m. PT and that it will "provide more information shortly."

The latest update on the status page offers a bit more information:

We're aware of a problem with Google Drive affecting a significant subset of users. The affected users are unable to access Google Drive. We will provide an update by 3/18/13 12:10 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.

Isitdownrightnow.com, which tracks the availability of Web sites, also shows that Google Drive has been down for some time. Comments from users on Isitdownrightnow.com indicate that the problem is widespread but not universal.

A few of the commenters say the service is up and running for them. But many more across the United States and Europe say it's inaccessible.

I've been able to open my Google Drive files, though access is slower than usual.

A Google spokesperson said that there's "no additional information to share right now," but said the company will post updates to its status page.
